How does Charlers Atlas Inspire?

I think his clean living, his rags to riches success story, his bones to muscle success story, and his physical culture lifestyle are ways in which he inspires, as well as his constant reminder that a person doesn't have to use apparatus, drugs, implants, or a germ infested gyms to build the perfect...

Re: Booklet

Henry's referring to the 32 page booklet that was part of the advertising package that Charles Atlas Limited mailed to people who inquired about the course back in the '60s - 80's. It is still available with the box set "ten steps to a better body." Before I was introduced to the internet,...

Re: People that were inspired by Charles Atlas or took course

I think it would be impossible to list all the famous people who were inspired by Charles Atlas, even if we knew their names. We can never know how many people saw Atlas' picture and were inspired by it to build themselves up but never did order the course. Maybe the picture spurred them to get to t...

Re: How did Charles Atlas workout?

All I know about it is what was written in the Gaines biography of him, available through any public library. Either they have a copy, or they can get one through inter-library loan.

Re: getting back into DT

Bravo! while 2 inches on the chest in 3 months may not sound like a whole lot to some people, that's 8 inches in 1 year, and 16 inches in 2 years. Those years can go by in a flash. If one started out with a 30 inch chest, that's a 46 inch chest in 2 years. Nothing to sneeze at. And 1 inch on the bic...

Re: Straining vs not straining

In my experience, you'll eventually get to the point of doing all that you can do and still be trembling. If you reach the point that you can't push yourself all the way up then you are straining. Take it almost to that point and no further. You will know at the bottom of each rep whether you can go...

Re: Crunches Or Situps

I can't say that I have. I have substituted crunches for the sit-ups and they hurt my upper back, so I went back to sit-ups. But I have always done them with bent knees. I have read that they are bad for the lower back, but not if you do them with bent knees.

Didn't Jack Dempsey take the course too?
