Does anyone have any ideas why Charles Atlas came up with dips as opposed to push-ups? Can one substitute push-ups for dips with the same benefit, or do they do different things?

Regards,

Alan

Dips are push ups, you can do them on chairs to get more range of motion. You can even do one arm chair dips, and even reverse the breathing.

they are pushups between chairs , dips are different and do effect the muscles and supporting muscles different, best to use a combination.

I WOULD TRY AS BEST YOU CAN, TO STICK WITH THE COURSE,

YOU ARE LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS FOR FUTURE EXERCISES, AND DEVELOPMENT.

I WOULD SUGGEST CHANGING THINGS AFTER YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH THE COURSE, AT LEAST ONCE.

ALL THE BEST IAN

Dips Variation

The Dynamic Tension System is designed so you can make it work for your own natural abilities and allows you to feel how your body reacts. A variation of dipping that I do sometimes is - Do one regular dip, the second dip, shift the weight to the right and do a dip on the right arm, come up and repeat a regular dip, then dip on the left side with the left arm.
