The gym in Charles Atlas's day was not like what you may see today, what he had was the parallel bars, horse and rings. With this kind of equipment his advanced exercises were much like the gymnast. Today you see a big trend in calisthenics using these methods, Atlas would do handstand dips on a piano stool dipping deep with his head going pass the seat. Just look at the build of modern bodyweight athletes and you can see what serious training without weights can do.
